If you are currently studying through Stirling College, you would have received a communication from the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Divinity in mid-December, to inform you that Stirling College has elected to merge with the Australian College of Ministries (ACOM), whose higher education provider is the Sydney College of Divinity.
The University of Divinity and Stirling College are fully committed to ensuring all students who have not concluded their studies in 2022 are able to complete their awards successfully with minimal disruption with either the University of Divinity or the Australian College of Ministries (Sydney College of Divinity).
This change means that students need to choose one of the following options to complete their awards.
Below are the details regarding the options that are available to you. We wish you successful completion of your studies.
Counselling students
This information is relevant to students in the:
- Advanced Diploma in Counselling
- Bachelor of Counselling
- Master of Counselling
Option 1: Transfer with Stirling to Australian College of Ministries (ACOM) – receive a Sydney College of Divinity Award
You will transfer with Stirling to Australian College of Ministries (ACOM).
There are two steps to this process:
- Withdraw from the University of Divinity by completing the University of Divinity Enrolment Variation Form (select Withdraw from Course)
- Apply for admission into the Sydney College of Divinity award
Your primary contact is the Stirling Registrar at registrar@acom.edu.au. Stirling will arrange all that is needed for your new enrolment including admission to Australian College of Ministries and credit for studies already completed.
Option 2: Finish your studies with Australian College of Ministries (ACOM) – receive a University of Divinity Award
You will remain enrolled with the University of Divinity (on a two-year Leave of Absence) and you will complete all remaining units through a Cross-Institutional Agreement with Stirling/Australian College of Ministries (ACOM) at the Sydney College of Divinity (SCD).
To be eligible for this option, you must complete your studies prior to 31 December 2024.
There are four steps to this process:
- Inform the University of Divinity that you wish to remain enrolled as a University of Divinity student to complete your award through cross-institutional units of study with Sydney College of Divinity.
- Complete a University of Divinity Application for External Study Form and a University of Divinity Enrolment Variation Form (select Leave of Absence).
- Sydney College of Divinity will enrol you in any specific units you request for cross-institutional study.
- Sydney College of Divinity will provide your results back to the University of Divinity who will give appropriate credit for the cross-institutional units of study undertaken prior to the end of 2024.
Your primary contact is the Stirling Registrar at registrar@acom.edu.au. Stirling will arrange all that is needed for your new enrolment to complete your units with the Australian College of Ministries.
Upon completion, your award will be made by the University of Divinity.
Important notes for cross-institutional students:
- Students are responsible for ensuring that they fulfil the requirements of the UD course.
- UD will apply cross-institutional credit at the end of each academic year.
- The Stirling School of Community Care at ACOM is responsible for ensuring units students take through ACOM are equivalent to those formerly offered by the UD for the purpose of completion.
Regulations for teach-out Counselling awards
- Regulation 78 Master of Counselling as at 31 Dec 2022
- Regulation 84 Bachelor of Counselling as at 31 Dec 2022
- Regulation 85 Advanced Diploma in Counselling as at 31 Dec 2022
Option 3: Exit the counselling program
If you wish to exit your studies from Stirling and the University of Divinity, you need to advise the Stirling Registrar at registrar@acom.edu.au.
Stirling will arrange all that is needed for your withdrawal from your University of Divinity. The University of Divinity will issue you with an academic transcript that you can use should you wish to transfer to another University or Higher Education Provider.
Theology and Ministry students

- Graduate Diploma in Divinity
- Graduate Diploma in Pastoral Care
- Graduate Diploma in Theology
- Master of Divinity
- Master of Pastoral Care
- Master of Theological Studies
- Master of Theology
Option 1: Transfer with Stirling to Australian College of Ministries (ACOM) – receive a Sydney College of Divinity Award
You will transfer with Stirling to Australian College of Ministries (ACOM).
There are two steps to this process:
- Withdraw from the University of Divinity by completing the University of Divinity Enrolment Variation Form (select Withdraw from Course).
- Apply for admission into the Sydney College of Divinity award.
If you wish to transfer with Stirling to Australian College of Ministries (ACOM) you need to advise the Stirling Registrar at registrar@acom.edu.au.
Stirling will arrange all that is needed for your new enrolment, including credit for studies already completed. Students selecting this option will be eligible to graduate with a Sydney College of Divinity award.
Option 2: Continue with the University of Divinity – receive a University of Divinity Award
You will remain with the University of Divinity and change to a different Home College or School within the University to complete your studies.
There are two steps to this process:
- Inform the University of Divinity that you wish to continue your studies at another College of the University. You will be put in touch with an appropriate College for further assistance.
- Complete and submit the Change of Home College Form.
Your primary contact is the University’s Student Services Manager, Valeriya Ignateva academicservices@divinity.edu.au. Your new College or School will arrange all that is needed for your continued enrolment and to complete your existing award with the University of Divinity.
Option 3: Exit the program
If you wish to exit studies from Stirling and the University of Divinity you need to advise the Stirling Registrar, at registrar@acom.edu.au.
Stirling will arrange all that is needed for your withdrawal or transfer to exit from the University of Divinity. The University will issue you with an academic transcript that you can use should you wish to transfer to another University or Higher Education Provider.
In some circumstances, it may be possible for you to exit with a lower AQF award than the one you were originally enrolled to study (for example, if you were enrolled in a Master’s degree and you have completed enough relevant points, it may be possible for you to transfer to a Graduate Certificate and graduate without needing to complete any further study.
Research students
This information is relevant to students in the:

- Doctor of Philosophy
