Guidelines for Academic Promotion and Classification were revised in 2025. New forms are now live in the Divinity Portal. If you are applying for classification or promotion please consult the Academic Staff Policy, sections 5 (Academic Titles and Classification), 9 (Academic Classifications and Promotions) and Schedule A (Evidence of Achievement for Academic Promotion).
Resources from the information sessions on the new guidelines for specific levels of academic classification are available here: Level C, Level D, Level E.
The University of Divinity recognises the significance of its academic staff to the University’s vision and mission through the provision of academic titles that are readily understood in the churches and wider community, and reflect standards in Australian Universities.
Appropriate classification, and recognition of excellence in contribution through opportunity for promotion to a higher level of classification, provides a means of acknowledging and encouraging the scholarship of its staff, within and beyond the University. In so doing, the University values the pursuit of quality across four areas: teaching, research, leadership in the academy, and engagement with the churches and wider community.
All academic staff who hold an ongoing appointment (or a fixed-term appointment of twelve months or longer) must be classified at one of the following levels:
- Level A (Associate Lecturer)
- Level B (Lecturer)
- Level C (Senior Lecturer)
- Level D (Associate Professor)
- Level E (Professor)
Information on this page is a summary of the Academic Staff Policy and Regulation 8: Members of the University. All applicants should consult the full documents prior to commencing an application for initial classification or promotion.
