Academic Staff Classification and Promotion

The University of Divinity recognises the significance of its academic staff to the University’s vision and mission through the provision of academic titles that are readily understood in the churches and wider community, and reflect standards in Australian Universities.

Appropriate classification, and recognition of excellence in contribution through opportunity for promotion to a higher level of classification, provides a means of acknowledging and encouraging the scholarship of its staff, within and beyond the University. In so doing, the University values the pursuit of quality across four areas: teaching, research, leadership in the academy, and engagement with the churches and wider community.

All academic staff who hold an ongoing appointment (or a fixed-term appointment of twelve months or longer) must be classified at one of the following levels:

• Level A (Associate Lecturer)
• Level B (Lecturer)
• Level C (Senior Lecturer)
• Level D (Associate Professor)
• Level E (Professor)

Guidance on preparing your application

Checklist

For applications to Level C (Senior Lecturer), Level D (Associate Professor) or Level E (Professor). Refer to Section D of the application form.

Section	Description
D1	Indicated application type.
D2	Indicated academic classification sought.
D3	Completed Self-Assessment and provided succinct statements in each area of the assessment. Provided relevant evidence to support all areas of self-assessment assessed as outstanding or strong.
D4	If relevant, explained the exceptional circumstances and provided evidence.
D5	For Level E application: Provided two independent academic referees.
D6	Confidential written reference by the College Principal sent under separate cover to the University Secretary. Provided curriculum vitae as per the requirements listed on the application form.
D7	Application has been certified by the College Principal.
