Research grants for HDR students, staff and libraries
The University offers two types of internal research grants on a competitive basis: Small Research Grants and Large Research Grants. There are three rounds of applications per year. Applications must be received at the Research Office by 5pm on the advertised closing dates. Please note that all research grant applications must be submitted to the Research Office by email as a single PDF.
Small research grants
Higher degree by research students may apply for Small Research Grants for a variety of research activities such as attending conferences in order to present a research paper, undertake field work (such as archival research or interviews), payment of expenses relating to a peer-reviewed publication.
Academic staff, honorary researchers, and librarians may apply for a Small Research Grant to fund a variety of research activities including attendance at conferences in order to present a research paper, employment of research assistants, undertake field work (such as archival research or interviews), expenses relating to a peer-reviewed publication, sponsorship or seed-funding for a conference supported by the University, travel costs for a visiting academic to the University, purchase of research items.
Funding is provided on a competitive basis, normally up to $4,000 per round and a maximum of $5,000 per year.
Large research grants
Academic staff and librarians may apply for a Large Research Grant to fund a variety of research activities. Funding is provided on a competitive basis, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year.
Academic staff are eligible to apply for a wide variety of external competitive grants. Staff should contact the Director of Research for further information and assistance in making an application for these grants.
